HISTORICAL SIGNS FOR CA' BADOER DEI BARBACANI
The house is built on the site of the original 10th century Cŕ Badoer, which belonged to the Badoer Family, then one of the most powerful in Venice. The present house was partly rebuilt by the Badoers towards the end of the 15th century and, in an intriguing way, thus combines both Mediaeval and Renaissance features. The former include the unusual high projecting pinions, or "barbacani", which are its identifying characteristic.
The location, between Campo Frari and Campo San Stin, is very quiet at yet at the same time within walking distance (15-20 minutes) of the Rialto, the Accademia and St. Mark's. It is close to the archives, to the University at Cŕ Foscari, to the Church of the Frari and the "Scuola" of San Giovanni Evangelista (with their many musical events) and is not far from the "Scuola" of San Rocco, renowned for its Tintorettos.
Various cafés, restaurants, take-aways and shops are within walking distance of the house; so is the nearest stop for all water transport on the Grand Canal at San Toma’.
The apartments are on the third, fourth and fifth floors level and enjoy spacious views, some looking out on the Church of the Frari and the Canal S.Stin. Interior decoration is in the traditional Venetian style. The three third floor apartments - Family, South and West Studio - are part of the former so called "second Piano Nobile" and have high ceilings.
Facilities: A rare privilege in Venice: the apartments are serviced by a modern lift (“elevator”). All have central heating and hot water, intercom and telephone, fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, drying and ironing facilities, safe box, hair dryer, tabel fans; provision of sheets and towels, and weekly cleaning on Saturday. The Attic Studio has air conditioning.
Everything is included in the Rental Price with the exception of air conditioning which is billed separately. Outgoing telephone calls are to be made on a card.
